Project sofTSense

Digitalization of water supply systems

The softSense project investigates the use of real-time sensor data for the optimization of wastewater plants.

Essentially, the project combines physics-based models of the plant components with real-time measurements to determine hard-to-measure quantities like the solids fraction.

To this end, RUB, SEEPEX and EGLV develop new physics-based models, which are validated with both lab and field data. EGLV currently is equipping a wasterwater plant with a digital sensor network. Simultaneously, the partner SEEPEX is setting up a test bench that has been tailored for the project.

Recommissioning of a SEEPEX progressing cavity pump, a similar type to the ones that are installed on-site in the wastewater treatment plant.

At ACS we retrofit an existing test stand in the hydraulic laboratory for fast validation of the developed control algorithms.
